Cannot delete desktop folders on Mac mini

Hi there

I have a Mac mini running Tahoe 26.1. I'm trying to delete some old folders on the desktop but all I get is a message as in the screenshot. How do I overcome this please.

Looks like you have your Desktop folder set to sync with iCloud, and it is not actually downloaded to the Mac so it can't really be deleted.

If it has a small cloud icon try clicking on it.

Otherwise, try holding down the command+option+delete keys to force deletion. This deletes them permanently, so there will be no way to get them back if you do this.
