I updated my Apple ID recently, but I have a Macbook laptop that uses the old Apple ID. I forgot the password for the old Apple ID and the laptop won't let me change the password without entering the old password. Help -- it's my only laptop and I need to use it!

I keep trying to do this, but I get the prompt to enter the password, which I don’t remember and can’t supply. When I click on “forgot my password” and verify my identity through typing in the number sent to my phone, I get the screen saying that Apple will contact me but no one ever does. When I get the option to “continue anyway” nothing happens. I have a iMac, iPad, and an iPhone As well, and it should be easy for Apple to know that the MacBook is in my possession—it’s frustrating. I have to do some travel soon and need my laptop
