iMac skipping photos usually happens because Photos sees only local images, thinks some are duplicates, fails with ProRAW/48MP formats, or the iPhone isn’t sending originals. Check iCloud originals, reset trust, switch to Keep Originals, or use Image Capture to compare — one of these always resolves the issue.

First, try this: Make sure the iPhone is locked before you pug it in so that you force Photos to request you to unlock it. I've heard that this helps.
Have you tried the app Image Capture that's in your Applications folder? See if that works any better. Still try the lock thing if this doesn't work at first.
Let us know-- I'd like to find out if this helps…
Thanks for reply. What do you mean by local images? Don't have any ProRAW48MP photos. No photos are in iCloud. Have tried over and over and Photos picks up a few photos then disconnects iPhone 17 Pro. Attempting to down load 1,005 pieces from recent vacation to latest IMac M4.
