Intermittent remote control issues with Apple TV and HomePods

I have two problems that might be related. (?) I have an Apple TV 4th gen, Ethernet version. Once in a while it goes crazy like someone else has a remote and is literally messing with me, turning the volume down just after I’ve turned it up. Not once, this can go on for a while. I do have another ATV in another room and I’ve reset and swapped remotes. Still happens intermittently so the issue probably isn’t a bad remote. Similar problem with a stereo pair of full size 2nd gen HomePods in the same room. They will start playing on their own, the volume goes up and down, etc. This will happen even when using them independently from the Apple TV. All software and firmware is latest/current (not beta). The HomePod issue is bad enough that they’re currently unplugged and unused. This is a long post, thanks for reading!
