Go To Current song takes you to the album and out of the list

Go to current song takes me out of list view and to album view in my library. I'm making a playlist. I don't need to see the album. When I go back to list view, it's not at the song. Has Apple lost the plot or am I missing something simple. If this is "just the way that it is now", it's a serious degradation of the app.
