Downloading Mac os tahoe 26.1

I have an apple iMac desktop. There are 2 upgrades to download. mac os tahoe 26.1 and mac os sequoia 15.7.2

I try to download and I get an indication that the wifi is not working ... therefore I cannot download and install.

2 times I have talked to apple support... and they cannot resolve the problem. The wifi is on... ethernet is also on

and I believe the problem is the software..

Any ideas? Besides I have called and had serviced my wifi and they do not find a problem.

I can email... connect to the Web etc... etc...

Please - any ideas?

It sound like there is some type of third-party Anti-Virus or Protection software installed on the iMac that is blocking it's ability to update.

1) Try starting up in Safe Mode and then see if the iMac will update to 15.7.2

see > Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

2) If that doesn't help, then try updating using the App Store or while in macOS Recovery mode.

I concur with my learned colleague @ den.thed 👍 + 1

There are 4 Categories of Third Party Software / Services that are not needed

Get rid of them via the Developers Instruction

In no special order

1 - Third Party 2 Way Firewalls

like Lulu and Little Snitch

2 - Commercial VPNs

They may not be what one believes they are doing for the computer and what they actually are doing behind the scenes and unbeknownst to the user ( you )

They may also reduce your Internet Speeds by upwards of 30%

VPN: What you need to know - Apple Community

3 - Third Party Security Software

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

Security. Built right in

Mac app security enhancements

The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Protecting against malware in macOS

4 - Third Party Disk Cleaners / Optimizer

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster.

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a percentage on each sale.

What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

To put the Third Party Disk Cleaner / Optimizer in context and the damages it may have or has already done.

This type of applications can or will Muck Up your User Account ( Home Folder ) of this machine.

It does not touch the Operating System itself unless you consider your User Account ( Home Folder ) as part of the Operating System.

The Operating System is hosed

Tahoe 26.1 caused my iMac desktop to essentially freeze. Finder froze. Apps wouldn't open. Safari wouldn't let me login to my email. Restarting and shutting down multiple times was no help. I ultimately tried SafeMode then first aid clean up. Restarts still didn't help and I couldn't restore Sequoia or any backup data. Went to bed ****** that my 2 year old computer might now be trash. First thing I did today was silently say the computer will work and held the startup button until I saw two options - I selected the button on the left (I believe it had my user name but I could be mistaken) and logged in that way. I looked to verify I was in Safe Mode but was in Normal Mode and the computer is now fine again. Verified my Library - Cache was clear of stuff I don't need. I did turn off automatic OS updates last night - no more OS updates I haven't vetted first.
