Getting a New Mac's Screen to Stay On:

A. Get this Serviced:

Who is the seller? If Apple, then have them service it, or just return it. If not Apple, then request a return. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, Trade in, or Recycle your Mac - Apple Support

B. Taking to an Apple store:

You'd setup a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store, taking it in for service. There, it will be diagnosed, and you'll be provided with your options. Go Here: Get your Mac Ready for Service - Apple Support

C. Consider Purchasing AppleCare+:

You might want to see about purchasing AppleCare+ with this, for issues like this. Go here to see if it is an option for you: View Coverage - AppleCare & Warranty

Mac mini Screen Going Black:

A. While the Screen is Black...

Mirror the Screen to Another Video Device:

While opened on the Mac, try mirroring the Mac, or extending it. Use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • [command + F1]
  • [command + dim-brightness]

B. Report this to Apple:

Apple won’t get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what their issues area out and about, and what fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of you issue, if you don't report it to them.

To Leave Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: Bug Report” for the “Feedback Type
  3. Select: Software/Firmware Update” for the “Feedback Area
  4. Comment: that this all began after installing this update. Include the URL of this thread.
