AirPod max not detecting head

I have used my AirPod max for over a year now, I use them every night at home. For the last month I have had constant problems. They wouldn’t connect unless I hold volume and button for 5 seconds to turn them off and on, then they were being detected on my device. However for the last week the have not worked at all. I have spent hours doing full reset, forgetting the item in Bluetooth and repairing them, going into find my, and deleting them and then reconnecting them, doing hard reset, letting battery drain and then reconnecting. I have checked software on all my devices is up to date. I have now given up, I need some help! 

nothing I do now gets them to work, it is so frustrating when they cost so much money and now they’re just a paperweight. I don’t know what else I can do to get them working. I only ever used them at home, never dropped them or damaged them. I have looked after them and now they’re useless. 

please can someone else help, is anyone else having this issue? need help as I really need these to work! 

they seem to show as connected but then nothing comes through. When I go into settings of AirPod and select Noise Cancellation it shows up “place AirPods on your head to use noise cancellation” when they are on my head already! It’s almost like they’re not detecting that they are on my head! Anyone help as no longer under warranty
