macOS update error: No response from Apple server

Hello everybody!

bear with me it is my first apple product.

Few days ago I had the message to upgrade from Seqouia to 26 postponed it. Now when I try to update I have this message:

"Didn't get a response from the Apple Software Update server"

I did this :

traceroute to appldnld.g.aaplimg.com (17.253.65.134)

got this :

10  esmad6-vip-fx-102.b.aaplimg.com (17.253.65.134)  37.271 ms !Z  38.351 ms !Z  35.519 ms !Z

Means OK for me.

Anyone know what the issue is ?

Disable any security/monitoring software

Especially:

  • Little Snitch / LuLu
  • Antivirus (Norton, McAfee, Sophos)
  • VPNs
  • Corporate firewalls

There are 4 Categories of Third Party Software / Services that are not needed

Get rid of them via the Developers Instruction

In no special order

Third Party 2 Way Firewalls

like Lulu and Little Snitch

Commercial VPNs

They may not be what one believes they are doing for the computer and what they actually are doing behind the scenes and unbeknownst to the user ( you )

They may also reduce your Internet Speeds by upwards of 30%

Third Party Security Software

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

Mac app security enhancements

The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Reboot your Mac and try the update again.

If a simple reboot of your Mac doesn’t fix things, see if you can update while booted in safe mode

Safe mode will often correct weird software behavior by forcing the OS to clear caches, do disk repair and other self-maintenance and housekeeping and temporarily disables third-party mods.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

You can exit safe mode by restarting your Mac normally, then reevaluate the problem.
