I can only eject disks (SD card, etc.) by doing a 'Force Eject.' Anytime I just do the regular eject button in the Finder, it pops up a window saying that it's in us by another program.
But it isn't.

MacBook Pro (M1 Max, 2021)
Startup in Safe Mode followed by a normal Restart and test Ejecting Disks.

If that doesn't fix it.
1) What App's are open and running..?
2) What is on the external Disks and SD cards..?
I do that often with no ill effects. I do take care to close any documents or apps that have open document on the external drive.
But I have no such control over background apps like Spotlight or Photos indexing which are the most common suspects. One option is to disable Spotlight on such disk but IMHO that is overdoing it.

Yeah, I've never had an issue with 'force eject,' it's just weird that I can't just hit he 'eject' buttons anymore. Even on drives/media that I haven't been accessing in a while.
