Mac Phone app microphone not working for calls

Using the phone app on the Mac OS Tahoe 26.1 I can hear the caller but they can not hear me - no input audio

Under Phone->Video->Settings Microphone is set to Use system settings

Under Settings->Sound->Input the Built-In Mac microphone is selected and is not muted. Input volume is at the mid way point.

Went to Settings->Privacy & Security->Microphone to check the settings but the phone app does not appear.

Several sights recommended deleting the app and reinstalling to get the phone app added into the Microphone settings but the phone app does not allow for deletion in the finder app.

Any other ideas to try to get the microphone working on the Mac phone app?

OK so I figured out the problem but not sure there is a good solution...

I use my MacBook in a docked mode so the laptop is closed and I have external monitors, keyboard, and mouse connected. When the laptop cover is closed the MacBook Pro microphone is disabled. As soon as I open the laptop the microphone is enabled and all is well.

Assuming I would need to get a external microphone as well to utilize the Phone app in this configuration?
