Deleted Emails Reappear in Inbox

On my MacBook Air, Sequoia 15.6.1, soon after I delete emails from my Mailbox, they reappear in my inbox. I see that the emails go into the Trash, but they only stay there for a short time then move back to the inbox. I've even tried to quickly empty the trash when the deleted emails land there but they still end up back in the inbox.
