Enable EU roaming for Apple Watch in Family Setup — child unreachable abroad (safety risk)

Hi everyone,

Setup: Apple Watch SE (2nd gen, Cellular, EU) on watchOS 26; organizer’s iPhone 16 on iOS 18.1; carrier Telekom Deutschland (DE).

Problem (safety): When we cross an EU border, a watch configured via Family Setup (For Your Kids) loses all cellular service. The child becomes unreachable — calls, Find My location sharing, and Schooltime stop. This is a real safety risk during travel.

Context: Within the EU, roam-like-at-home is standard. Family Setup is designed for child safety, but its usefulness ends at the border because international roaming is blocked for Family Setup watches.

Request to Apple:

Add opt-in toggles “Allow Data Roaming” and “Allow Voice Roaming” in Family Setup (default OFF), keep all parental controls, enable only on supported EU/EEA networks.

Developer Feedback ID: FB2*****3 (already submitted).

If you’re affected, please click “I have this question too” and comment with your country/carrier.

physical apple store and asking other customers their advice

if it was me then I would reach out to the carrier the watch is connected to roaming is usually an agreement between the carrier a device is connected to and one or more carriers in the country one has traveled to.
