Apple ID Payments Sign In Issue

So this is happening on both my iPhone and iPad right now. I cannot download and install any apps from the app store, even free ones, as my Apple ID for payments got signed out. I won't accept my Apple ID password. I can unlock via password on both devices so I know the password is correct. Just the app store is having issues on the payments side. Is something down on Apple servers that's taken down app store purchases (even free apps)? All systems status shows up and okay when I check your system status page.

Normally I get asked for my fingerprint (iPad) or face id (iPhone) wurmen downloading a new app. This isn't working today, it asks for a password and won't accept what I've VERY carefully entered and confirmed as the correct password.

Update : realised my apple ID password <> my device unlock password (not using pin code). Managed to sign in. But weird that it signed me out to begin with! Definitely an issue there as I had to re-sign in to the app store AND my iCloud payments...
