Message read status not syncing between Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad

All devices are running latest release versions of OS. I can open messages on my phone but they do not show read on iPad.

When I open messages on watch the do not show read on iPhone. When I read them on iPhone they show read on watch.

Original Title: I have iPhone 17 pro max and Ultra 3 watch. When I get a message on the watch it does not dismiss on the phone or my iPad
