Why is Apple Lossless Streaming so fractured?

Like, who is lossless / hi-res for and why is it so confusing to confirm what’s going on? If you can’t tell the difference why offer it? All that hi-res data and infrastructure just for headphone users?

• I don’t want my iPhone etc tied up streaming music so if I leave, battery dies the music stops.

• AirPlay 2 does NOT stream 16/44 it’s converted to 250 AAC as soon as it’s over WiFi, another misconception.

• Nobody streams music from a laptop or over wires.

It’s such a painful silly mess I’m thinking of ditching Apple Music and going with any another service. ELEVEN Apple devices in the home and not one hi-res option to my hifi.
