Calendar : edit a (poorly titled) event which was created and sent by someone else

I suspect I'm not alone in being irritated when someone else sends me a poorly-titled Calendar invite —whether from their own Apple Calendar, or via Google, or Microsoft — and I am unable to change the name/title to something more descriptive.

Example: Mr. Smith sends me an invitation for a meeting; Smith titles the event "Meet with Jones". I am Jones, so the event is meaningless in my Calendar view. I'd like to change it to "Smith/Jones re Acme deal" but I can't ... or at least I don't know how.

How can I change the title of such an Event, short of emailing the sender and saying, "Hey, I'm happy to meet with you, but before I accept your invite, please be considerate and re-title it to something less useless than your standard invite"?
