Pathetically slow restore from iCloud to M5 iPad Pro
I recently updated from a Gen3 iPad Pro to an M5 IPad Pro. I planned on treading in my old iPad after I transferred the data directly between the old and new iPad. The salesman quoted me the trade-in value and claimed that it was just as fast to restore from iCloud. What a disaster.
It has taken 4 days and I still have 30Gb to transfer. I have looked at advice on websites and have learned that restore from iCloud is invariably slow and poorly performing. I have tried all of the suggested remedies.
- My internet is a 750Mbps link. It is working correctly from a MacBook Pro. Furthermore, Safari is working on the iPad much faster than I am used to with the old iPad. I have been able to update the iPadOS to the latest version. Despite this the restore either goes very slowly or appears to hang altogether.
- Restart - I have tried restarting both the router and the iPad several times. On one or two times it has made a small dent in the amount to be downloaded but on others it stays apparently frozen.
- The iPad has been connected to the power for much of the time but battery has never dropped below 75% when not connected.
- I am hoping to get this restore finished. Any advice as to how to resolve the iCloud issue would be appreciated. It seems this issue has been hanging around for years but Apple has shown no interest in improving it.
- Once I can recover from this mess I intend to abandon iCloud for a third party backup solution. Any advice on user experience with these app would be appreciated.
