function keys not working especially sound controls F10-F12

I was having F10 through F12 not be the default pictures on the keyboard (Mute Decrease volume Increase volume. Went to Geek squad and they fixed the issue. Hold Fn key down along with the escape key. This locks the keyboard to the pictures shown.
