Email already in use with another Apple ID

I switched to apple for the first time when I got this phone 2 years ago. When I set up my account it said something like “my email was already in use or connected to another Apple ID” which is odd bc I use the email everyday and it is my first Apple product ever. Hmmm 🤔 can anyone help me gain insight about this or how to change it?

If you switch to a Apple ID two years ago and when setting it up you said that the account was already in use, so my question is how where you using it before setting up your Apple ID, since you couldn't have had been using it before setting up the account on Apple. It's rare but other people could have had already registered the email address on Apple before you.
