1440p display for Mac Mini?

I want to buy myself my first real Mac, but im still unsure wich one i want.

The Mac Mini M4 seems appealing to me and is kinda cheap but for that i would just have a 1440p display.

It is 27“ i guess, and i heard that the output of the mac looks blurry on 1440p monitors.

is it really that bad, and would you recommend me to better get a Macbook or should i go for the Mini?

Or is there maybe a software to tweak this?

I don't know anything about 1440p displays but I can tell you that 27" 1080p and 4K displays work perfectly!

They are available from £100 (1080p) and £180 (4K) on Amazon.

I would keep clear of MacBooks unless you absolutely must have a laptop . . . they have tiny screens, fewer connection ports and less power than the mini plus costing a ridiculous amount.

The mini wins hands down if you can live without a laptop.

Incidentally you can plug the mini into any TV with an HDMI socket . . . on occasions I have used my 55" 4K TV as a monitor and the effect is quite gobsmacking!

I have a 10 Core Mac Mini M4 with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD ($101084

331+84) with a 32" LG 4k monitor ($331from Amazon.com)  is $1415 which is $541 less than a similarly configured new 24" iMac ($1956)  re 07/2025. Keep your keyboard and mouse from your current Mac for use with the Mini.

I got the above Mini with a 32" LG 4K monitor w/speakers for only $60 more than the 27" (didn't know the Mini had a speaker). The 4K model is sharp and clear. Excellent color also.

I strongly advise against getting any SSD less than 1 TB.

Depends on the display. Some 1440P displays are simply not very sharp.

As an aside, when you do get a display, toss the cables that come with the display as they are almost always the cheapest that the display vendor can get away with. Purchase a high quality, certified HDMI cable and no longer than 1m in length.

I would disagree with that statement about HDMI cables.

Every cable on every (cheap) monitor I have bought has worked perfectly and lasted "forever".

Whenever I have bought separate cables I have gone for the cheapest on Amazon (£2 -£3) and I still have all of them (some over 15 years old) which are in daily use on 4K TVs, monitors and 4K camcorders.

My film-making friends have all had the same experience.

I haven't bought any for years as the old ones are still working perfectly so I just checked on Amazon and was pleased to see they are still the same price as I was paying ages ago.

There may be some applications that require more specialised cables but I have never come across them nor has anyone I know.

I am in the UK so cannot comment on what is sold in other countries but I suspect everyone buys from China.

The Mac mini has a speaker – but I believe that it only has one. This lets you hear the system startup sound and user interface feedback sounds – but is not ideal for playing music, or watching movies. The same is true of the Mac Studio, and probably also of the Mac Pro. The idea is for you to bring your own external speakers.

The 24" M4 iMac, on the other hand, has a "High-fidelity six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers" that can deliver "Wide stereo sound." As does the 27" 5K Apple Studio Display.

I got the LG 32" 4K monitor with speakers. They are OK. I don't listen to music on my Mac, only videos with sound. That doesn't take much sound technology to enjoy.

If I listen to music I use my iPhone and AirPod Pro 2 earbuds. But that's rare. I use my iPhone and AirPod Pros mainly for audiobooks. It makes all that time waiting in doctors' waiting room worth while.
