Mail does not size fonts properly on printed paper

Mail improperly sizes printed text on a physical piece of paper. This problem has been reported a number of times with no resolution and each time the thread has been closed. It appears the threads were closed because they referred to older macOS versions. This comment is specific to Tahoe, macOS 26.

To see the problem compose an email in macOS Mail with the message body text set to Helvetica, Regular, 14 pts. When printing such an email, the size of a letter, specifically an uppercase N, is about 1/12”. I expected approximately 1/6”.

For comparison I used Pages, with the same font settings, to print the same text and the hardcopy was as expected, 1/6”.

Calling Apple Support was not helpful, much time was spent explaining that the issue was not related to how the text in each application looked on my screen and was then told to simply increase my font size. I have also read that Mail uses pixels as the units for font size on this community. That would also be a problem.

A 14 pts font should print at the same size as a printers typeface using a 14 pts character on a printing press.

Has anyone any further information regarding this problem?
