Touch ID login not working after macOS Tahoe update on MacBook Pro

Since I installed Tahoe 26 I have to manually log in every time I open the lid instead of the finger print. Macbook pro 2019.

There are some known bugs here...don't feel alone.

Known issues tend to get sorted according to priority in the point-updates that will continue to roll out.

You can remove all Finger prints and set it back up to compare your results:

setup fingerprint for magic keyboard

Touch ID & Password settings on Mac

verify your software is up to date—

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.0.1

NB>> especially the details in last section:

Security policies that affect Touch ID

For security reasons, you may be required to enter your password manually in these cases:

  • You haven't logged in to your account since you last logged out, including by shutting down or restarting your Mac.
  • You haven't unlocked your Mac in more than 48 hours.
  • You’re changing Touch ID settings.
  • Your fingerprint isn't recognized five times in a row.
  • Your Mac is set up to log in automatically.

If I leave the lid open I should be able to wake the computer from inactivity with just the press of a key on the keyboard. Not so - it requires TWO presses of the power button, even if I've been away from the computer for only 10 minutes. Oh, and then it requires me to put in my password rather than recognizing TouchID. If I open the lid after it's been sleeping that way - I have to press the power button to wake it rather than it waking on opening the lid (and it also requires password rather than TouchID)
