Macbook Pro and Ipad Will Not send texts to Android - It's also sending imessages with icloud email - even though I have phone number selected

Just set up a new Iphone with old number, and Macbook Pro and Ipad Will Not send texts to Android - It's also sending imessages with icloud email - even though I have phone number selected. I have restarted, de-selected the number and re-selected it, etc. I'm running 26 on all devices. I know the send to android is always iffy but haven't had this issue before. I'm losing my mind! Thanks in advance for the help!

The only device that can directly send texts via SMS or RCS is an iPhone.

Mac cannot send SMS or RCS directly.

Does sending SMS or RCS texts from the iPhone to the intended recipient number work?

Texts can sometimes be indirectly sent from anywhere using email as well, depending on the carrier, and the receiving user’s own carrier-related settings.

With Apple Continuity and use of a common Apple Account, other Apple devices sharing an Apple Account can send texts indirectly via an iPhone, when that is configured. After testing the ability of the iPhone to send directly, check the Continuity settings.

Thank you Mr. Hoffman! Yes the iphone can send the texts and now the ipad is as well (from the phone) just not the Macbook Pro (running 26) - AND/BUT - It also appears to be sending all of my texts from my icloud address not my phone number - because it's changing my contact information at the top of my spouses phone and on test text messages I send to myself - instead of showing me it says "might be" - because I don't have that icloud address in my contact card (because it's old and outdated and I don't like to use it) - and I never had to add it before. All this said, the phone number is selected as the means of sending texts (neither the icloud address or the apple id email address [gmail] are selected for that purpose. I have restarted devices, turned off and on messaging, unchecked and rechecked the phone number box, and no go. The contact card is still messed up and I can't get my macbook pro to send texts (via the phone) nor can I get it to sync. Same deal there. All the right boxes are checked. It's making me nuts! Thanks for your help.

Yep. Did that. I think there may be more than one thing happening at once. I noticed since the last update that 1) my profile photo is gone from this macbook 2) Having this text messaging issue - even though all the right boxes are checked and 3) My email accounts won’t sync. All of this since the most recent 26 update the other day. I think this message thing could also be a part of that. I’m just restarted in safe mode and the email issue is still a problem. Texts now appear to be sending but now coming from icloud not phone number.

How much of this could be a result of the update? I’m seeing other posts about the email at least.

Point of Clarification: People should not have to have my icloud address in their contact info for me, for my messages to work if they are set to phone - this is how I know that the mac is not working - because the phone number box is checked, icloud box is unchecked and people are still being forced to accept and add the icloud info to my contact otherwise they get two message streams from me - old (with phone #) and new - From Icloud. Right?
