Replacing POP Email with IMAP on my 2024 IMAC

I seem not able to delete my POP Email account on my IMAC.


From the settings when I delete the POP Email account and then add the new account it still appears as POP!

Apple Tech Support person said that I would have to delete my current IMAP Email on my IPhone and IMAP completely to be able to replace the POP with IMAP. I contacted my Email provider and was told to do that I would have to use a new address, which I would not choose to do!


Seems like there should be a way to delete the POP account on my IMAC (deleting a cache,etc?) to enable the IMAC to star fresh?


The crazy thing is I was able to replace the POP account on my two other devices. (IPHONE and 2017 IMAC)

Remove the email account (in System Settings > Internet Accounts) and add it again by entering an incorrect password. This will allow you to choose between IMAP and POP. Choose IMAP, correct the password and proceed with the account creation.
