I select a message in Inbox and try to move it to a selected labeled mail box. Click and release but mail remains in Inbox.

I have followed your instructions. Deleted the email account and reinstalled it. So far, so good 24 hours later. Thank you very much.
Not sure if this will work, but you could try removing the Account from Mail and re-add it.
I don't want you to go into System Settings. I want you to remove your account from Mail and then re-enter it if possible ion the iMac since you are running Sequoia.
AlWeir Thanks. I've been going into System Settings and turning off and back on Mail in the list of what is to be in the app. It works sometimes for a while. The longer I've had Mail open and the more messages I've tried to move, the more likely that messages will no longer move. I've also turned Mail off and back on and I've tried just restarting the computer. Nothing permanently fixes this problem.
When the problem is there, I not only cannot designate which should be the recipient mail box but I cannot even drag and drop the email to the proper mail box.
This is not a new problem. It has showed up with older versions of the OS. Surely Apple knows about it.?
