Mac OS 26 Messages - can't copy sender's phone number

Frequently I want to copy a message sender's phone number. I used to be able to click on their icon in the message and that information popped up and I could copy from it. Now a sidebar with the sender's complete info pops up. When I click on the phone number nothing happens - it doesn't highlight so I can do a Command-C. Right click does nothing. Double click initiates a call even though there is no indicator that that's the action that will occur...no dialogue box confirming that I really want to place a call.

This is a big step backwards. What was Apple thinking??
