I have a question about Mail deletions syncing with iPad and iPhone

Hello. I have an iPad Pro 11” 2nd Gen and an iPhone 16 Pro both on OS 26.

I may not be understanding something, but when I delete emails on the iPad, should they not be deleted on the iPhone? Both devices are using the same Apple ID account and on the same wifi.

Could someone tell me what am I not doing properly?

Common Troubleshooting Steps (If you are using IMAP)

If you are certain you are using IMAP, try these steps in order:

  1. Restart Both Devices: A simple restart of your iPhone and iPad can often clear minor glitches that affect syncing.
  2. Toggle Mail Sync Off and On:
    • Go to Settings on both your iPhone and iPad.
    • Tap Mail > Accounts.
    • Select the account that isn't syncing.
    • Toggle the Mail switch Off.
    • Wait about 30 seconds, then toggle the Mail switch On again.

Check Fetch Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data.

Make sure your setting is set to Push (if supported by your mail provider) or a short Fetch interval (like 15 or 30 minutes), not "Manually."

Remove and Re-add the Email Account:

  • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.

  • Select the problem account.
  • Tap Delete Account.
  • Restart your device (optional but recommended).

Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account and set up the email account again. This re-establishes a fresh connection with the server.

Check for VPN or Private Relay Interference

Sometimes a VPN or Apple's iCloud Private Relay can interfere with the Mail app's server connection and syncing.

  • Try temporarily disabling your VPN or iCloud Private Relay (Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Private Relay) on both devices to see if the syncing returns to normal.
