I have been unable to open messages on my MacBook Pro for the last few weeks. I thought an IOS update (26.0.1) would be the fix but it is not. I just get the spinning wheel and have to force quit each time. Any suggestions?

When you usually run message on your iPhone, and open it on your Mac for the first time in a long time, the database of old messages needs to be transferred to your Mac. That can take many minutes.
Be sure you wait it out.
Just leave messages open and spinning in the background and come back later.
