While it has "protective circuitry" it's not a full surge suppressor.
Get a decent surge suppressor. I have always preferred the Eaton/Tripp Lite Isobar surge suppressors. They are ruggedly built, come in 2,4,6 & 8 outlet configurations with high suppression ratings. And if one ever gives up its life in service, they will replace it at no charge.

+1
Power adaptors employ electrical isolation.
As long as input line voltage remains within it’s “design safety range” the output will similarly remain “safe”.
There is no “solid” electrical connection between the ACVolts-in and the DCVolts-out.
They are NOT surge protectors.
(which generally employ MOVs to “dump” the excess-energy surges caused by lightning and power distribution faults)
FYI, years ago....back in the PowerPC days around the year 2001-2003, the Apple power adapters would switch off whenever turning on/off florescent lights or when a laser printer powered up to print when those items were on the same electrical circuit. The Apple power adapter had to be unplugged from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the power adapter's internal circuitry. Just that amount of fluctuation in the power on the electrical circuit was enough to trigger the Apple' power adapter's protective circuitry. Similar to a circuit breaker in most houses. It seemed to only affect power adapters from a limited batch which were more sensitive than ones from years prior or since.
Every once in a while I still have had to unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet because the Apple power adapter can sometimes get into a state where it may not be fully functional due to being used with hundreds of Macs I'm troubleshooting & repairing.....many with accidental damage.
