Apple wired headphones will not connect

I had just purchased brand new apple brand wired headphones for my IPhone 12, when i plugged them in they asked me to download Apple Music again, thinking nothing of it i closed out of it. then plugged them in they will not hook up even after i updated and redownloaded apple music.
