Airtag Limit: Do Shared Items Count Against the 32-Item Cap?

I understand that a single Apple ID is limited to tracking a maximum of 32 items (AirTags, Find My network accessories, and certain AirPods) in the Find My app's 'Items' tab.

My question is critical for a potential business deployment: Do AirTags that have been shared with my Apple ID count against this 32-item limit?

Context: Corporate Asset Tracking

We are looking to implement a system where we track expensive, portable testing equipment used by approximately 30 remote service technicians.

  1. Each technician would purchase and assign one AirTag to their personal Apple ID (the owner).
  2. The technician would then share tracking access with our department manager (the borrower).

Our department manager currently has over 10 AirTags already assigned to their Apple ID.

If the manager accepts 30 sharing invitations from the remote employees, will the manager be able to track all 30 shared AirTags, or does the total (10 owned + 30 shared = 40 items) exceed the 32-item limit?

Any official documentation or reliable community insight on the item count calculation (owned vs. shared) would be extremely helpful!
