The first character typed sometimes doesn't show if I haven't typed for about 10 minutes. WIRED keyboards as well as wireless. "Slow Keys" in Settings is NOT turned on.
This never happened before i switched to OSX26. Nothing else has changed.
This was covered here many years ago (15 years+ on the forum) when many people reported it then. I haven't experienced this since that time.

See if the problem is present when you boot in safe mode, which disables 3rd party extensions and performs some system cleanup.

It is possible there are processes running in the background that are using significant resources. Check Activity Monitor, CPU tab, sort by % CPU to see what's running hard.
Please do test in Safe Mode.
If the problem does not occur (and I am convinced that it does not), then it comes down to some third party software not playing nice with Tahoe.
In that case: Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

I am also seeing this on MacOS Tahoe. Brand new MBP Apple M4 Pro 24 GB memory.
Occasionally the first keystroke just doesnt register.
Since Tahoe, Keyboard often misses first character.
