Turn facetime camera off when not in a call

I use facetime on the Mac to pick up phone calls (which allows me to use my Headset that's paired with the Mac Book and have my hands free).

But for that I don't need a camera and the always on self-view (plus the green LED) annoy me.

How do I turn off the cam when it's not in use?
