Air tag defective? It asked for battery replacement, beeps once, then nothing

the AirTag said its battery is low. I replaced with new energizer cr2032. It will beep once then nothing….

it does appear the energizer here 2032 is a little thicker than the Panasonic that they come with.

everything is very clean regarding the AirTag. It’s not been subject to harsh environments or any pressure that would break it.

Did these things just have a really short shelf life?
