Why Do Photos Saved from Shared Albums Lose Original Timestamp?

Hi everyone,

When I save photos from a shared album to my iPhone, the timestamp changes to the time I saved it instead of keeping the original date the photo was taken. This messes up the chronological order in my Photos app, and it’s really frustrating.

This issue started for me back in iOS 18, and now I’m using an iPhone 17 with iOS 26, and it’s still happening. Is there any way to fix this or preserve the original timestamp when saving from shared albums?

I’ve posted about this issue multiple times in the past, but it still hasn’t been addressed. I really urge Apple to fix this, as it’s been a long-standing problem for many users.
