Headphones not recognized on my MacBook Pro

Every time i flip my screen to open my 2024 macbook pro and insert my headphones they do not work. The sound keeps coming through the lab top speakers. I always have to shut down my Mac and restart to get my headphones to work. It has become a pain. I go to my sounds in settings and it does not even show headphones as device added and unable to add. I followed this process Reset SMC and NVRAM: If problems persist, consider resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and non-volatile random

access memory (NVRAM) to fix hardware-related issues. This helped only temporarily and now still continue to restart my mac to get my headphones to work. Any guidance please.
