Support for Nikon High Efficiency RAW (HE RAW) in Photos and Photomator

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there’s an ETA for Apple Photos and Photomator to support Nikon’s High Efficiency RAW (HE RAW) format?

It’s been available in newer Nikon cameras for quite some time now, but as of the latest macOS 26 update, it still doesn’t seem to be supported.

Would really appreciate any updates or insights on whether support is planned.

Thanks,

Marcin

Which camera model are you using? The RAW support is specific for each camera model, as you can see on the list of supported camera models: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, and visionOS 26 - Apple Support

Most of the Nikon Z models in the list are marked with the footnote 4: "Lossless RAW format only. "

I have never seen Apple remove such limiting footnotes later, after the RAW support for a camera model has been released. So I am not holding my breath that it will happen for existing camera models, that are already supported.
