Forgot password on a 2012 Mac mini and I can’t even reset it. Any help on this

So I have a Mac mini 2013 that I haven’t used in years. I forgot the password and the only way to use the recovery key is thru apple support, but apple doesn’t support this feature anymore. I then tried to command + r and went thru utility but it requires the password just to reset the computer and I can’t even do that because I don’t remember the password. Is there any way around all of this?
