apple will replace your apple watch band if you have applecare+ and accidentally lose it or it gets stolen. but how do i know what band originally came with my apple watch? i specifically got it as a present so i have no clue what band originally came

Is there a receipt anywhere? Could you ask the person who bought it for you to forward the email maybe?

Then maybe it is not covered. I’m pretty sure Theft and Loss is AppleCare+, and is not covered under AppleCare. You will have to buy a new band
no i don’t have contact with the person who purchased it. but isn’t there anyway to find out? i’m pretty sure apple watch’s are packed together with the bands before purchase so i thought the device serial number might be in connection with a band, i also wonder how apple might decide what band i had if i submit a claim. would they just take my word?
Im pretty sure it’s covered. i have applecare one so i’m sure i have loss and theft on my apple watch and i’ve been told that there is a policy in the US specifically about the apple watch band. my only problems are that i don’t know what band is originally connected to my apple watch as well as apple does not state there policy on how they find out what band you have.

If you lost just the band (and still had the watch), that alone is not covered under Theft/Loss. The policy covers only the watch + included band as part of a full watch loss or theft event.
it tells me is that my solution is to buy a new band.

It also says if you lost your band and your watch they would let you pick the colour and material of the replacement band
