MagSafe 3 Cable Failure and Overheating
Can anyone direct me to a method of notifying Apple regarding a failing MagSafe cable overheating and become a safety issue?
I have an original Apple MagSafe 3 cable. At some point, it stopped working properly. When it fails, the indicator light on the MagSafe connector goes dark. At this point, the cable itself starts getting hot very quickly, and within a couple of minutes, becomes too hot to hold onto. Close inspection does not show the cable being abraded, however, there is a section of the cable that seems stiffer than the rest. The difference is subtle enough that I cannot be sure that is the case, but the overheating is quite evident.
Manipulating the cable eventually causes charging to resume and the indicator light to illuminate. At this point, the cable cools (if I had let it remain attached). I am a little concerned that this may become a fire hazard. It was my impression that USB 3 (the other end of the MagSafe 3 cable) had electronics in the connector that regulates the power delivery, but somehow, this situation is not protected.
I could just go to my Apple service point and purchase a new cable and let them know, but it could just get thrown away and the issue not taken seriously, so I'd like to get this information, and perhaps the cable, to somebody who will take ownership.
