Is Quicken 2017 compatible with macOS 26 Tahoe?

I asked this question just a year ago about Sequoia and while Quicken 2017 has been working perfectly well, I now ask if anyone has tried using it under macOS 26 Tahoe. I haven't found another personal financial product I like since Quicken 2017. I only use it locally like a check register so I don't need an online connection.

2017...?

You are asking about 8 year old third party software—let me take a wild guess. NO

macOS Catalina (2019) was the last OS that can run old 32-bit apps. Full stop.

All applications going forward. will have to be 64-bit. ref: 32-bit app compatibility with macOS - Apple Support

if in doubt search the developers website or contact their: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/updates…

I see no indication on the Quicken site that there is a Universal binary for Quicken 2017.

The release notes for Version 6.0.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, & 6.0.3 (11_2020 & 12_2020) say that "Quicken is now a Universal app which means it will take full advantage of the power and speed of new Apple Silicon Macs." That would appear to imply that it is only Quicken 2020 and later that are Apple-Silicon-native.

The only way to actually know would be to install macOS 26 Tahoe on an external drive, boot Tahoe from that drive, install Quicken 2017 on that Tahoe drive and test.

But if you are unwilling to update to the current version of Quicken and refuse to update your Mac because of an old and now unsupported version of Quicken that's your business. Sacrificing security and privacy, as well as modern methods of accessing the internet doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. All because you don’t want to spend money to stay up to date?

Sequoia does not support 32-bit applications. So if the main Quicken 2017 application was 32-bit, you would not have been able to run it on Sequoia at all.

That said, there could be other compatibility issues with Tahoe.

Also, note this:

About the Rosetta translation environment | Apple Developer Documentation

"Rosetta was designed to make the transition to Apple silicon easier, and we plan to make it available for the next two major macOS releases – through macOS 27 – as a general-purpose tool for Intel apps to help developers complete the migration of their apps. Beyond this timeframe, we will keep a subset of Rosetta functionality aimed at supporting older unmaintained gaming titles, that rely on Intel-based frameworks."

That is, when macOS 28 comes out, it is likely that there will be no Rosetta 2 support for running Quicken 2017.

You can't just guess. If you haven't used Quicken 2017 with macOS 26, you don't know. For one thing, it's 64 bit, not 32.

As I said in my original post, I've been using it successfully with Sequoia. It will keep working if the engine that runs it still works with Tahoe. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually tried it yet.
