Magic Mouse not connecting wirelessly to MacBook despite full charge and Bluetooth enabled

I can't connect my magic mouse to my macbook. The mouse is 100% charged and Bluetooth is on. When wire connected I get a message saying the mouse is wirelessly connected. But on unplugging, the mouse is NOT wirelessly connected
