iCloud Messages not Syncing IOS 26

I just got an iphone 17 Pro yesterday and my iMessages are not syncing over. I thought it would just take some time, but I read online that a lot of people are having this same issue. I can see all of the messages on my old iphone and on my computer. I'm definitely not updating those in fear of losing them. I have a ton of iCloud storage, and the syncing will start, and then pause and say 'Syncing has been paused'. I will manually restart it again, and then the same thing will happen.

I'm honestly terrified because I lost a loved one recently, and the thought of losing those messages scares me. Trying to calm myself because I know I did a backup recently.

Is anyone else experiencing this with IOS 26? Did anything help?

The initial sync with iCloud for any data can take some time to complete. It's best to keep your device plugged in overnight or during the day and walk away from it for a while. Anything in iCloud is not included in your device backup; if you're concerned about losing messages, there may be third-party apps that can help to archive the messages.
