After updating to Tahoe, USB devices connected via USB hub are no longer recognized

As the title says, after updating my Macbook Pro to Tahoe neither my external mouse or keyboard are being recognized. They are both connected via a port hub that is also used to connect the external monitors, which work fine.

I've regularly had issues with the Macbook failing to recognized these USB devices, similar to as described in this existing thread. However, I was always able to fix these issues by unplugging and replugging in the hub or if that didn't work, fully restarting the Macbook and then reconnecting the hub. But since automatically updating to Tahoe last night, neither of these solutions work any longer. As of right now, the only way I can use my laptop is by using the built-in trackpad and keyboard which completely breaks my current setup.

Is there any way to address this? My Macbook has an Intel processor, so setting "System Settings->Privacy&Security->Allow accessories to connect->Ask every time" as suggested in the previous thread above isn't an option.

You do not say what specific " port hub" this is ...(?)

Did you search the developers website or contact their: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/updates…

a possible firmware update may be available for comparability..?

Otherwise shutting down and restarting with your device plugged in and compare your results.

I found a workaround that is working consistently for me:

  1. Connect Macbook to (Thunderbolt) hub via cable
  2. The monitor is not being recognized, which prevents you from using clamshell mode.
  3. Open up your Macbook, while still connected to your hub and do a normal restart.
  4. Once you log in, your monitor should now be recognized by your Mac and you should be able to use it in clamshell mode.

This worked for me but it's not a longterm solution. Let's make sure to flag this to Apple so they are aware.

I think I’m running into the same problem. I have an anker thunderbolt 3 dock that connects 2 monitors and all my usb peripherals.

Since upgrading to Tahoe, my MacBook will sometimes just not connect to any of the peripherals. The laptop will chime and I can see that it’s charging, but monitors don’t connect and I’m unable to use my keyboard.

I’ve noticed this on 2 MacBook Pros (an M1 Max and an M2 Max). Neither had this particular problem before upgrading to Tahoe.

I’ve found rebooting the laptop can get things working again, but interestingly if I switch to a different thunderbolt port, everything will connect without issue. (Unplugging/plugging into the original “problem” port does not resolve the issue)

Hoping this gets resolved in an update. Needing to move ports around every time I start my day is going to become annoying.

Yesterday, I tried attaching my Macbook to the docking station after it had been disconnected for a week and resetting the SMC and it worked! I was able to successfully use my peripherals, then I put my laptop in sleep mode for the day and when I came back this morning it was back to no longer working. Restarting still doesn't help it detect it. We need some sort of real solution for this. Good call on reporting it via feedback.

I found a similar problem with my Anker 563 USB C 10-in-1 docking station. Ports for my monitors worked but the USB A for my Akai MPK259 stopped working. I can plug the Akai directly into my MacBook Pro with the media adapter and it works fine. Restarting the hub and the Mac do not solve the problem. I've update the firmware for the Akai and updated the DisplayLink Manager app to 14.0.0 (build 7). The problem remains.

This issue is not only trying to connect through a dock... It also includes a direct connection with a USB cable.

I have a MacStudio and MBPro and connected them with a USB cable and when both ran Sequoia: NO PROBLEM. I could move my mouse between the two, drag and drop, etc., NO PROBLEM. Each time I connected the two computers with the cable, they were instantly connected!

As soon as I upgraded the Studio to Tahoe, BIG PROBLEMS. It no longer worked. (I was forced by Apple engineering, troubleshooting the problem with AirDrop, to upgrade.) There was no mouse movement between computers, of course no drag and drop. (Other threads are showing that "AirDrop" doesn't work anymore on Tahoe... there seem to be a pattern of problems emerging: "connectivity" and "Tahoe.")

The temporary pain-in-the-neck work around is to go to "Network", connect the two computers, then select the specific folder, and then, on the Studio, drop whatever file I need into that folder.... that is time consuming and the computers must be reconnected in this way every time I connect the computers with a USB cable. The common denominator here is OSTahoe...

Yes, for me the two issues I described: a) not recognizing a MBPro connected by a USB to a MacStudio and b) AirDrop not working, have been resolved (more or less) by upgrading Tahoe to v26.1.

AirDrop now very quickly sends the file to the MBPro, however, it still takes quite a while (10-15 seconds) for it to send a file to my iPhone 16 (iOS18.7.1) but it does send it eventually successfully.

So, while Tahoe 26.0.1 created these problems, Tahoe 26.1 seems to have solved this problem....Thus proving the old computer adage, "never install "version point 0" of anything..."

Hopefully this will also make progress on solving the docking station problems you chaps have with that connectivity issue...
