Verbatim "External All-In-One Optical Writer" DVD burner not recognized on my new Mac Studio

I've been using this burner for a year or so with my 2020 iMac and it worked fine with OS 15.6.1 . . I just upgraded to a Mac Studio and the drive doesn't appear in the finder or the desktop, when a blank DVD is placed in the tray. The green light on the drive door flashes when it is connected but nothing happens afterwards. I've restarted a few times with it connected with a USB cable, thinking it might need to discover the drive, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions? I've looked around on the web but nothing seems to be mentioned about this. . if anyone has had a similar issue and knows how to fix this, it would be awesome to be able to burn DVDs again. . thanks in advance!
