Pictures I edit automatically being saved as HEIC ?

After updating to 26 I noticed when I take a picture, it saves it to the default format of JPEG. No problem as soon as I edit it and add numbers and labels to the picture using the phone editing tools, it saves it as another JPEG on the phone. However, when I go to transfer and import edited photos I can’t because they are HEIC format. I can see the original picture I took as JPEG and can import them. No problem however, the ones I edited I cannot transfer to my computer.

If your originals are jpg, and that's what you want, then why not switch to keep originals?

I notice that you didn't give us any information about what sort of computer or OS you're doing this on, or what method you are using to "transfer" your pictures. That makes it harder to help.

So, you're using a PC. Are you in Windows 10 or 11 or something else? The thing is, the phone assumes that Windows 11 understands heic, which is the better format.

Do you use iCloud Photos? Optimize?

Do you keep secrets from your doctor, too? When you ask for help, it makes it three times as much work to give answers.
