iTunes purchases onto iPad .... they are not on my MacBook currently

I try to avoid adding music to MacBook laptop and iPhone to save memory.

How do I transfer music from iTunes to an old iPod? All attempts at locating / opening iTunes are routing me to Apple Music... "iTunes is Going Places" ... Why can this dinosaur have the music I purchased since 1990's anymore?
