Ocassional colon inserted instead of type period.

In pages on a MacBook Pro 14-inch, Nov 2024 laptop, when I type in period after some but not all instances of the "definition" get colon instead of the period. I have restarted the program, thee computer, and turned off autocorrect, now of which helped. What's going onhere.
