Past events don’t show up in iPhone Calendar search even though syncing is enabled

When I search my iPhone calendar to find a past event, there are no results though I know at least a dozen should come up. I’m syncing all events. Help, please.

I’ve spent a lot of time searching for answers and although I find several of this same posting, the threads are all closed and I cannot access the answers.
